How to choose a watercooling?

Place a water system in your case does not scare you? So here are the criteria for establishing a water cooling with onions.

Kit or spare parts?

If the kits all-in-one are practical since already ready for use, is systematically provided the best solution? Before making your choice, it should ask you three questions

What time are you willing to pay for installation?

What is your expertise level?

What components of your setup you want to cool?

If your answers are “a lot”, “good enough” and “my processor and my graphics card”, you are ready to purchase separate components. In this case, be careful about one thing: to provide within a single brand avoids potential compatibility hassles.

However if you want to cool your CPU without too much worry about installation, pre-assembled kit you should maybe more. But it has the disadvantage of not necessarily fit your case and remains a less flexible solution.

The waterblock in question

The water block is part of the circuit in contact with the component to be cooled. What should be its features?

The contact surface which is the interface between water and the component should be as thin as possible

the material used must effectively transport heat: copper is renowned in the field

the fastening system must be both simple and strong.

Finally, it should ensure that it is compatible with the chipset on your motherboard.

One or two pumps?

The eternal question for watercooling enthusiasts: a two pump system is it relevant?

A two-pump system allows for better flow and causes less noise

if you opt for such a configuration, place a suction pump and the other propulsion

check the compatibility of this system with your housing, particularly in terms of space and position.

Another utility of a two-pump system is the possibility of mounting two parallel circuits: in this case, the gain in throughput is lost, but no component is favored over another as in a series circuit. However, noise will be on the rise …

Tank and pipes

Here are our recommendations regarding these circuit elements that must meet certain constraints.

The diameter of the pipes must be as large as possible, even if it is mostly limited to 12 mm housings

tank capacity must be consistent

using deionized water, the best liquid to be used in a water cooling circuit.

Finally, you can use a Y-connector to avoid favoring one element relative to another within the circuit, but this adds complexity to assembly and a larger footprint while rates are halved. Expect the joint use of two pumps in series for higher performance and less noise.

active or passive radiator?

Watercooling, as its name suggests, is expected to be without active ventilation. Is that relevant?

However, one can do without if the exchange takes place with the outside air, cooler than the fluid in the housing

remains to consider the question of space and dimensions, either in the housing or outside.
