Google-Motorola: Brussels asks for more information

He will be the acquisition of Motorola by Google Mobilty finalized? Brussels antitrust authorities have so far stopped their investigation and request more information.

If the summer is generally not conducive to major announcements, the month of August was relatively eventful. In addition to the HP WebOS decisions, especially Google announced its intention to purchase Motorola Mobility manufacturer. Rather than restrict the manufacture of Android smartphones to one manufacturer, it is mainly for Google to have control over a slew of patents to protect its manufacturing partners.

According to the New York Times, the antitrust authorities of the European Commission have halted their investigation and made a request to Google to return their “key documents to the assessment of this transaction.” Amelia Torres, spokesperson for the commission, said: “when we have all the necessary documents we will take the case.”

JoaquĆn Almunia, European Commissioner for Competition, is expected to announce on January 10 next if Google and Motorola will be able to finalize their agreement that if they give rise to potential problems with the competition.

Note that the department of justice in the United States has also asked Google to return him more documents in order to make a decision. Finally, remember Google is the subject of a separate investigation for abuse of dominant position. Several companies actually accuse the Californian giant to prioritize its own products in its search engine and promote its advertising partners.
